Request A Switch Adapted Toy

About our switch chapter

Children with CYFIP2 DEE often experience motor impairments and muscle tone abnormalities which impacts fine motor skill development, daily functions and playtime. Adaptive technology is available to assist in developing these skills, however, adaptive toys can be very costly to families. This is due to the cost of equipment needed to modify the toy and make the switches. Sometimes, these types of toys are available through early intervention programs on a "borrow and return" basis, but they are often in high demand.

Our goal of providing switch adapted toys to children with CYFIP2 related DEE is to ensure that all children can experience accessible play without financial burden to the family. Switch adapted toys are a great way to support cognitive, language, motor and play skills!

How IT WORKS

When a toy is requested using the form below, we will modify a toy that either meets or comes close as possible to your toy preferences. The modification includes: 1. providing an easy to activate switch that will turn on the toy and 2. installing the plug that the switch connects to. If you have more than one switch adapted toy, you can unplug the switch button and use it with other toys. The switch buttons are available in three different sizes to accommodate different needs: mini, standard and mega. The switch button shown in the example below is a mini size.

Families can request switch adapted toy donations twice yearly to accommodate growing needs and interests. If you would like your second toy to include a different button size, please let us know!

Toys will be mailed out to requesting families once per month. Please note that shipping to countries outside of the United States can take up to a few weeks.

There is no cost to families to request a toy. We only ask to please consider making a small donation so that we can continue supporting families and research, although a donation is not required to receive a toy.
